Youth and Wellbeing Galiwin’ku

The Youth and Wellbeing team have been working with young people in Galiwin’ku for the past five years, holding weekly night kitchens, family mediation and youth diversion activities, all with a Yolngu-focussed and holistic approach to emotional health.

The team will present their story about the lives of young people in Galiwin’ku; how their experience has led them to a deeper level of understanding about how young people’s interactions with the justice system, and their innovative approach to youth diversion and community service. They will speak further about their experience as consultants for mainstream services that work with young people, the knowledge gaps that exist in those service’s understandings of young people’s needs, and the difficulties that young people have in understanding things like community service and DVO’s.
